Not sure how far you can drive when the low fuel light comes on? Learn how to calculate the driving distance in your Lexus with some quick and easy math that will give you an approximate driving range. Do not wait too long to fill up at your local gas station – driving your new Lexus ES on empty can have a negative impact on the fuel pump and you run the risk of getting stranded. Get an estimate on how far you can drive with your low fuel light on with these quick steps. 

1. The low fuel light in your Lexus ES generally indicates that you have 10-15 percent of your total fuel capacity left. To be safe – we recommend you use the lower end of that calculation. 
2. Check in your Lexus ES owner’s manual to determine how much your fuel tank can hold and calculate 10 percent of that number. For example – the Lexus ES has a 15.9-gallon fuel tank – which means you have 1.59 gallons of fuel in reserve when the low fuel light comes on with 10 percent left. 
3. To determine how far you can drive with the low fuel light on, you can multiply the average fuel-economy rating for your Lexus ES by the estimated amount of fuel you have left. If we use the Lexus ES as the example, you would multiply 1.59 gallons by 26 mpg combined – for an estimated driving distance of 41.3 miles.
