2024 LEXUS RZ 450e and RZ 300e REVIEW
A new era began in January of 2023 when Lexus Electrified introduced the first all-electric vehicle for the brand – the RZ 450e. Now, drumroll please: Lexus is expanding the RZ line with an all new option this model year – the 2024 Lexus RZ 300e with Front Wheel Drive.
As the first fully electric luxury SUV, the RX 450e was created from the ground up revealing a fast-paced, intelligently designed, spacious vehicle with big plans for the future. Along with the new 300e, these 2024 Lexus electric models combine the sleek body angles and beautifully appointed cabin Lexus is known for in an all electric four door sedan.
Read on to learn more about Lexus Electrified vehicles, the RZ 450e and RZ 300e. Imagine owning an all electric SUV or sedan, and never filling up again!
What are the LEXUS RZ 450e Performance Features?
Lexus Electrified is a leader in the industry with nine models that are hybrid or plug-in hybrid.
Two decades of electric engineering expertise was applied to the first strictly electric model now in its second year of production. The 2024 Lexus RZ 450e incorporates the brand’s distinct driving identity giving the SUV owner a responsive and instinctual driving experience.
Conventional autos are most cost-effective at higher speeds, battery electric vehicles, like the RZ line, have greater energy efficiency at lower speeds where most day to day driving is done. The electric range of the RZ 450e is 225 miles or more.
The driver commands an excellent output of 308 horsepower produced by two motors. The combined rate of 319 lb ft of torque is realized as the front motor generates 196 lb ft while the rear motor generates 124 lb ft.
Developed for Lexus electric vehicles, the all wheel drive system is quick and linear. High-output electronic axle motors swing in degrees between front wheel to rear wheel drive. Unlike gas powered rides, this all wheel drive system can go from 100:0 to 0:100.
What are the LEXUS RZ 300e Performance Features?
This year Lexus Electrified is expanding its electric stable with the RZ 300e, an all electric 4 door sedan. The new model has a single electric motor on the front axle making it front-wheel drive.
The powertrain system has a 201 horsepower rating with R196 lb-ft of torque. The RZ 300e has an EPA-estimated range of 266 miles on the standard 18-inch wheels. This allows for outstanding flexibility during a daily commute.
Lexus engineers have delivered an enhanced suspension on the RZ 300e. The optimized shock absorbers, rear springs and stabilizers render the all-electric sedan agile with a smooth and comfortable ride. A subframe has replaced the rear axle of the AWD. It subdues travel noise creating an ultra-quiet cabin.
Both RZ vehicles have a battery capable of accepting charging from 0 to 100% in about 9.5 hours and from 0 to 80% in about 30 minutes on a fast charger. They come Standard with a Dual-Voltage Charging Cable for 120V and 240V outlets and can be charged at home or on the go. In addition, the RZ line features a battery rapid heating system to quicken the recharging process during cold weather.
How do the Build and Battery Features affect Lexus RZ Handling?
The Lexus Driving Signature that strives to create a luxury driving experience in all of its models is reflected in the RZ Lexus electric line. A lightweight steel frame known as e-TNGA is specific to electric vehicles rather than adapted from a gas-powered body frame.
High-tensile steel panels and an aluminum hood increase rigidity and reduce body weight. The battery and motors are placed for optimal weight distribution, meeting an ideal of sports cars today.
The Lexus Driving Signature is also reflected in the new Active Hydraulic Booster-G (AHB-G) braking system that works with the RZ regenerative motor capability to reduce vehicle speed while keeping a smooth transition. The new Vehicle Stability Control actuator and on-demand pressurizing system gives the braking system a natural and responsive brake pedal feel.
To prevent bumps and dips from affecting passenger comfort, engineers employed Frequence Reactive Dampers. These clever devices react in real time to input from the road’s surface. Drivers will notice the precise control of sprung weight and the responsive steering feel.
How Quiet is this Electric Lexus?
Luxury Lexus cabins are known for their quiet ride, and a quiet electric system presents a challenge. However, every effort has been made to quiet the Lexus RZ interior at every speed, and these efforts work beautifully.
Beneath the surface, the battery pack acts as a barrier against sound. At the front, the turbulent airflow is redirected through the sealed opening of the hood. Noise is suppressed by the acoustic glass at the front and rear, while the weather stripping reduces noise in the cabin when driving at high speeds.
In order to ensure passenger comfort is not affected by bumps and dips on the road, engineers have utilized sophisticated Frequence Reactive Dampers which respond instantly to changes in the road surface. Drivers will experience accurate control over the car's weight distribution and a highly responsive steering sensation.
Underneath, the battery pack forms a sound barrier. Ahead turbulent airflow is rerouted by the sealed hood opening. Front and rear acoustic glass suppresses noise and weather stripping quiets the cabin’s cross section at high speeds.
Are Modern Tech Suites a Part of the RZ Aesthetic?
RZ models come packed with state of the art technological features. Many electric vehicle owners are tech savvy and the Lexus tech features in the RZ line are a growing draw in EV sales.
A standard 14-inch high-definition touchscreen provides easy-to-use controls and accessible information on an anti-reflective glass screen with a vivid display. A center knob located at the screen’s bottom edge controls power and volume.
Connectivity is important to the EV driver. The RZ’s are ready to handle all charging needs with five USB ports in the cabin. There is bluetooth phone capability along with standard wireless for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The RZ also offers Wi-Fi Connect with 4G for up to five devices and enables an Integrated Streaming feature.
Package adds include the Advanced Park system, Cloud Navigation and Traffic Jam Assist along with the 13-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound system.
Does the Electric Car impact Lexus Luxury Design Elements?
The RZ line has moved in a new direction as Lexus designers worked within parameters to create a cabin in touch with the future. It is tech rich, but nonetheless centered on the human driving experience.
The minimalist style conveys luxury through high quality materials, top craftsmanship, and an emphasis on true comfort. Numerous exclusive features set the Lexus RZ models apart from competitors.
Specially designed for greater spaciousness, RZ steering wheels are smaller and more condensed, allowing for a steering angle of 150 degrees. This means that drivers no longer have to perform hand-over-hand maneuvers, which are commonly required in traditional gas-powered vehicles. Furthermore, the steer by wire system effectively eliminates both understeer and oversteer.
A good example of the futuristic elements, the Lexus RZ’s Shadow Illumination feature alters the light shade projected onto the door trim when open and closed. This design aesthetic, taking advantage of an EV’s electricity to create light-driven experiences, adds visually pleasing flair and expands the luxury vehicle’s interior-design possibilities. Once again, Lexus is leading the pack.
Achieving a harmonious combination of advanced technology and delicate details, the RZ 450e and 300e feature ultra-suede upholstery and trim components. More elegance is achieved with the use of artisan crafted wood-grain trim elements.
Is Safety a Priority in the RZ 450e and 300e?
Both the Lexus RZ 450e and 300e come standard with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 offering a suite of driver assistance technology.
The Pre-Collision System (PCS) has Frontal Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking along with bicyclist and pedestrian detection. PCS has Emergency Steering Assist which can be prompted by the driver. A new feature detects objects in your lane and can gently brake and steer away from them alerting you and stopping when you may be turning left into the path of another vehicle.
The system also includes All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Lane Tracing Assist. Lane Departure Alert uses steering wheel vibrations or sound notification to get the driver’s attention. A new feature of the LSS+ 3.0 is the Curve Speed Management feature which helps manage speed in curves when cruise control is engaged.
The Road Sign Assist uses an intelligent camera detecting road sign information. In addition to showing speed limit information on the Multi-Information Display, the system alerts the driver of stop signs, Do Not Enter signs, yield signs and warning signs.
