The Lexus RX Engine, Transmission, and Performance
With an estimated release in late 2022, it’s speculated that you’ll be able to pick up an all new Lexus RX in a range of powertrains, from a standard model to an F Sport trim. As of now, there are four possible powertrains planned for the 2023 luxury crossover.
The base RX350 model will feature a 275-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The base RX350 comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive, with the option to upgrade to all-wheel.
If you’re in the market for a hybrid, you can’t go wrong with the RX350h. This hybrid model offers an efficient pairing of electric motors with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to produce 246-hp. Additionally, this all new Lexus RX hybrid features a continuously variable automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
You’ll find that the sportiest model, the RX500h F Sport Performance, delivers a punchy 367-hp hybrid powertrain alongside the standard all-wheel drive. The RX500h F Sport Performance model uses Lexus’s Direct4 system to distribute power to all four wheels.
If you can hold out, a plug-in hybrid model known as the RX450h+ is set to hit the market later on down the road, though Lexus hasn’t revealed those specs quite yet.
An All New Look
We’ve only been shown a two-row, five-seat layout in the all new 2023 Lexus RX, though previous models featured both two and three-row configurations. For now, we can expect Lexus will continue to give drivers those options.
The Interior
You’ll find a more modern interior in the 2023 model, with textured fabric sections on the upper door panels, warm ambient lighting, and open-pore wood trim.
The RX500h F Sport Performance will feature more heavily bolstered seats, a black interior trim, paddle shifters, and aluminum pedals.
Connectivity and the Infotainment System
The all new 2023 Lexus RX will showcase a larger 14-inch infotainment touchscreen in the middle of the dash. This screen is slightly angled toward the driver for convenience and safety, and it will incorporate Lexus’s latest software interface.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay remain a standard feature in the all new Lexus RX models, with the option to include navigation, head-up display, and a Mark Levison stereo system.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The 2023 RX line-up will feature many of the standard driver-assistance features found on most Lexus vehicles. The all new Lexus RX models will feature automated emergency braking that can detect pedestrians and motorcyclists, alongside adaptive cruise control and lane centering.
We’re still waiting on information about other features such as fuel economy, range, battery life, and charging for plug-in models.
